Washington County, named for the first President of the United States, was once known as Tuality County. The county name on the census of 1845 was also spelled as Twality and Twalatain.The County is bordered by Columbia County to the north, Multnomah County and Clackamas County to the east, on the south by Yamhill County, and on the west by Tillamook County. Major industries in the County are agriculture, lumber, and manufacturing. Nike, the only Fortune 500 Corporation based in Oregon, is headquartered in the County.
