Wallowa County derives its name from an Indian term for stakes set in a triangle, as part of a fish trap. The county is located in the northeastern most corner of the state of Oregon. It is bordered by the State of Washington on the north, on the east by the Snake River which is the boundary with the State of Idaho, on the south by Baker County, and on the west by Union County.
