Named after the Malheur River, the County is located in the southeast corner of the state of Oregon. It is bordered the state of Nevada on the south, the state of Idaho on the east, Baker County is to the north, with Harney and Grant Counties to the west. It is the second largest county in the state of Oregon.There are many scenic places in the county, such as The Owyhee River, Carlton Canyon, Pillars of Rome, Jordan Craters as well as many others. The first settlers came to the region because of the discovery of gold in the early 1860s. The primary industries are agriculture, livestock, and tourism.
