The County was named for the multitude of lakes and hot springs throughout the county. Located in south central Oregon, it is bordered by Harney County to the east, Deschutes County to the north, Klamath County to the west, and California to the south. The economy is based mainly on lumber, agriculture, and government. Because of the many lakes, tourism is a growing industry in the County. Rock hunting and hang gliding are also on the rise in popularity.
