Named for Josephine Rollins, the first white woman to settle in southern Oregon, the county was the last county created before Oregon was granted statehood. The principal industries are lumber, tourism, and agriculture.The Rogue River is famous for its salmon and steelhead fishing. Rafting and camping are also popular within the county. There are many camp grounds and parks along the river. In the early 1850s, gold was found and miners came to seek there fortunes. By the late 1850s the gold ran out and the miners moved north to British Columbia where gold had been recently found.
