Mount Jefferson, the second highest peak in Oregon with an elevation of 10,497 feet is where the county gets its name. The major tourist attractions are fishing, hunting, camping, boating, water-skiing and rock hunting.There are over 60,000 acres of irrigated land producing vegetable, grass and flower seeds, garlic, mint and sugar beets. The County seat of Madras was named after a city in India and was incorporated in 1911.
