Named for the Hood River, a tributary of the Columbia River, the county is the second smallest in the State of Oregon.Located in the middle of the Columbia River Gorge, the views here are spectacular. The County is known as the windsurfing capital of the world. Fishing, hiking, or snow skiing are all available here. Whatever your recreational needs, they can be met here in the county.The principle industries include agriculture, timber, hydroelectric production, and recreation. Orchards growing pears, apples, cherries and peaches abound throughout the county. As a matter of fact the county leads the world in Anjou pear production.
