The County was names after the Deschutes River. The river was named by French-Canadian fur trappers. They called the river des Chutes (River of the Falls). The County is considered the outdoor recreation capital of Oregon. With it’s majestic mountains and wide open desert there are activities for everyone.
Activities include hiking, skiing, fishing, rafting, golf, rock-climbing, and hunting to name a few.The sights are equally breath taking. From the Lava Lands to Three Sisters Wilderness to the Cascade Mountains you will see beauty that will awe your senses.
