The Clatsop Indians, one of the many Chinook tribes in Oregon is where the county got its name. The county is bordered by the Columbia River on the north, the Pacific Ocean on the west; Tillamook County is to the south, with Columbia County on the east.The county seat of Astoria is the oldest city in Oregon. It was founded in 1811. The Port of Astoria is one of 23 Oregon port districts used for trade along the Oregon coast. Cruise ships now stop at Astoria for tourists to enjoy the history, shops, and nearby attractions. Astoria is where the Lewis and Clark Expedition reached the Pacific Ocean.
